9 more Charter Review candidates wrap up filing week

(Port Angeles) -- Election filing week wrapped up Friday with 9 new Charter Review Commission candidates filing at the Clallam County Courthouse.

Dave Cummins, Mike Lemon, Lois Perry and Stephen Rosales of Sequim; and Shauna Rush of Carlsborg, signed up for Charter Review Commissioner District 1.

S. Taylor Jennings of Port Angeles filed for Charter Review Commissioner District 2.

Port Angeles residents Evelyn Tobin and Randy Simmons, along with Forks City Attorney and Planner Rod Fleck filed for Charter Review Commissioner District 3.

Earlier in the week, contested races developed for County Auditor, County Sheriff, Department of Community Development Director and Clallam Public Utility District Commissioner.

Elections Coordinator Patty Rosand and incumbent Cathy McKeown will face off for the office of County Auditor.

Sheriff's Sergeant Bill Benedict challenges incumbent Joe Martin for Clallam County Sheriff.

Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe Executive Director John Miller faces incumbent Department of Community Development Director Rob Robertsen.

Port Angeles School Board member Cindy Kelly is running against incumbent Clallam PUD District 3 Commissioner Ted Simpson.

6 incumbents will run unopposed this fall: Assessor Pam Rushton, District 3 County Commissioner Mike Doherty, Prosecuting Attorney Deborah Kelly, Treasurer Judy Scott, and District Court Judges Rick Porter and Eric Rohrer.

The 10 people filing for Charter Review Commission District 1 this week include Sequim residents Dave Cummins, Sue Erzen, Sue Forde, Nola Judd, Mike Lemon and Lois Perry.

Other District 1 candidates include Stephen Rosales, Jim Pickett and Ken Wiersema of Sequim; and Shauna Rush of Carlsborg.

10 Port Angeles area residents filed for the 5 Charter Review Commission spots in District 2, including Kaj Ahlburg, Richard French, S. Taylor Jennings, John Miller, Patti Morris and Fred Norton.

Other District 2 Charter Review Commission candidates include Terry Roth, Teri Schwiethale, Norma Turner and Michele "Mickie" Vail.

6 people filed to run for the 5 Charter Review Commissioners in District 3 -- Patti Adler of Clallam Bay, Rod Fleck of Forks and Port Angeles residents Kris Grier, Tom Shindler, Randy Simmons and Evelyn Tobin.

Earlier this week, Sequim firefighter Kevin VanDeWege, a Democrat, filed to run against incumbent 24th District Republican Representative Jim Buck of Joyce.

The Peninsula's other legislative representative, House Majority Leader Lynn Kessler, will run unopposed this fall.

Friday afternoon, Republican Doug Cloud of Tacoma files to run against the incumbent Sixth District Congressman, Democrat Norm Dicks.
