East End commissioner race shaping up

Wednesday, May 16, 2007

Sequim, WA - We may have a better idea of the East End county commissioners’ race in another week.

Incumbent Clallam County Commissioner Steve Tharinger has the potential of running for a third term in the seat, which represents the Sequim area on the three member board. Tharinger, who survived a bout with cancer two years ago, has been guarded about his political plans.

However, this week the Democrat told the Peninsula Daily News be might be making an announcement one way or the other this coming week.

Meanwhile, Sequim Mayor Walt Schubert, who’s been mentioned as a possible Republican candidate, may wait until the 11th hour before letting potential opponents know whether he’ll enter the race. He tells the PDN he’s planning a news conference on June 7th, but that’s right at the end of the official filing week.
