Does tribe really have flats' welfare in mind when it asks state to impose buffers?

Letter to the Editor

Skagit Valley Herald

9/20/02

As a person whose livelihood is dependent on Skagit County agriculture I read with some concern the article titled "Tribe asks state to impose buffers" which appeared in the September 13, 2002 edition of the Skagit Valley Herald. I found the article to be somewhat informative despite the unprofessional writing and editing as demonstrated by the blatant and uncalled for editorializing in the third paragraph on page A-6.

I question the interest displayed by the Swinomish Tribe towards the welfare of the ecology of the Skagit Flats, as reported in the article. I urge valley residents to travel to La Conner and look west across the Swinomish Channel. From any public dock you will be able to observe a number of artifacts, examples of the care taken and the stewardship practiced by the tribe towards their own possessions and land.
