The City of Port Angeles is shopping for new planning commissioners, after three commissioners walk-out because of the city council’s decision to organize the Department of Community Development.

Bob Philpott, Linda Nutter and Chuck Schram stepped down Wednesday night, just 24-hours after the city council approved the controversial re-organization plan. All three had criticized the proposal to bring the DCD under the supervision of the city’s economic development director, citing concerns about conflicts of interest with having the economic specialist overseeing the department that considers whether projects should be approved.

The resignations leave the PA Planning Commission without a quorum, because of the recent departure of Dylan Honnold who moved out of the city.

The re-organization plan also effects the Parks and Recreation Department, placing it under the management of the Public Works Department. There’s been no immediate word of any parks commissioners resigning, although several had expressed concerns about the administrative change.
