Port Angeles, WA - The construction signs came down Thursday afternoon and the newly paved 1.6-mile section of the Olympic Discovery Trail east of the Rayonier property is open, said City Traffic Engineer Jim Mahlum.

The only items remaining are hydroseeding and putting up some fencing, which won't affect trail users he said.

The project paved a trail section previously covered by gravel.

The estimated $220,000 project included installing fencing; installing a culvert and retaining wall; and hydroseeding in the ditch areas to prevent erosion.
