(Port Angeles) -- The National Park Service released the final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement on Elwha Ecosystem Restoration Implementation Friday.

This document supplements the 1996 Elwha Ecosystem Restoration Implementation EIS by identifying and analyzing potential impacts of a new and updated set of water quality and supply mitigation measures. The 1996 EIS proposed mitigating the impacts of sediment release through a series of specific water treatment measures. Since then, new research and changes unrelated to the actual Elwha project have emerged, necessitating this supplement.

The draft SEIS was released for public review and comment in January 2005. Eleven comment letters were received and are reproduced with responses in the final document. Both the draft and final versions of the SEIS are available for review at the Elwha project website, along other related documents, at the parks Internet website. www.nps.gov/olym/elwha/home.htm
