PORT TOWNSEND -- A pilot program to help promote the marine trades in Jefferson, Clallam and Kitsap counties is envisioned to be a boon to the areas' businesses.

The Jefferson County Economic Development Council is taking the lead role in the yearlong pilot.

Ann Avary, EDC director, said Monday that the program is being closely watched as a model by the state and other counties.

Avary was the guest speaker at the Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce's weekly luncheon membership meeting at Point Hudson.
