Wood resigns from Lopez Community Land Trust
7/9/03 Lopez Island, WA - The Lopez Community Land Trust has announced the resignation of Executive Director Sandy Wood. Wood, who has been the executive director for more than 2.5 years, resigned to pursue other interests. Meg Partridge, the current development director, will serve as interim director until a new director is appointed. Wood is looking forward to new career pursuits in Seattle and more time with her partner and family there. "It's time to focus my life in one place and to participate in my grandchildren's lives more," she said. Now that the LCLT has completed two major capital projects, Wood said she felt this was a good time for a change in leadership. "I will miss my work here. It has been a real privilege to work with so many wonderful and dedicated people." Gary Tabasinske, the trust's board chairman, praised Wood's commitment and contribution to the organization. "Sandy has been an integral part of the success of the recently completed affordable housing project, Innisfree. She will be missed." Other members of the board complimented Wood's dedication to the Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development program, which encourages good land stewardship and supports local food production, providing families access to fresh, local food and promoting the development of small-scale agriculture in the San Juan islands. The Lopez Community Land Trust is a non-profit organization based on Lopez Island. The trust acts a resource for low-income residents by providing access to permanently affordable housing and land, cultivating sustainable economic development, and nurturing an ethic of land stewardship. In the last year, the land trust completed Innisfree, its third affordable housing development on Lopez Island; and received national recognition for the creation of a Mobile Meat Processing Unit, the first mobile unit in the nation to receive USDA approval.
