Special filing period opens for some fall races

(Port Angeles) -- Clallam County elections officials will open an expanded filing window for a number of local races that did not attract candidates this fall. Wednesday through Friday the auditor's office will take filings for a number of west end fire district, parks and recreation and Forks city council and school board positions.

Republicans will have this week to try to come up with a candidates for Clallam County commissioner. Incumbent Democrat Steve Tharinger filed unopposed. Under election rules, the Republican Party will have the option to fill the vacant party position for commissioner. The regular filing period wrapped up last week.
