CLALLAM COUNTY ADVISORY BOARDS SEEK VOLUNTEERS 

February 26, 2007, Port Angeles, Washington – The Board of Clallam County Commissioners announces an opportunity for local residents to participate in county government for the following Advisory Committees: 

AGRICULTURAL COMMISSION

(Two positions open)

The Agricultural Commission was established to act in an advisory capacity in order to research agricultural issues, provide information, and convey the interests and desires of farmers and others in the agricultural community to the Board of Commissioners.  There is one open position for a farmer of district III and one open position for a non-farmer at-large position.  The Board meets on an information basis as necessary. 

Civil Service Commission

(One position open)

The Civil Service Commission makes suitable rules and regulations; gives practical tests to applicants; makes investigations regarding the operation of the Sheriff’s Department, and upon the petition of a citizen after proper verification, conducts hearings and investigations.  It hears and determines appeals or complaints, certifies the person highest on the eligibility list, keeps records.  There is one open position for a member of the Republican Party (Per RCW 41.14.030 " . . . at the time of appointment not more than two commissioners shall be adherents of the same political party").  Any U.S. citizen with two or more year’s residency in Clallam County and who does not hold any salaried public office or work for the County may volunteer for a six-year term. 

Housing Authority Board

(One position open)

This Board oversees the Clallam County Housing Authority.  The Authority operates under a contract with the US Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) to provide and maintain low-income housing for residents of Clallam County.  There is one open position.     

 

Marine Resource Committee

(Two positions open)

The Marine Resource Committee advises the County Commissioners regarding issues related to the marine resources of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and its bays, estuaries, and inlets within the borders of Clallam County.  There is one open position for a member of the Clallam Bay-Sekiu area and one open position for a member of the commercial fisheries.  Members serve 4-year terms.
