Tacoma, WA - The Boeing Co.'s relentless pace of terminations will continue today as the company issues 60-day layoff notices to 1,150 workers companywide.

All but 50 of those receiving layoff notices work in the Puget Sound area. Those notified today will work their last day at the aerospace company July 25.

Today will be the last day of work for 730 workers notified 60 days ago. Of those, 580 work in Puget Sound plants. They will be paid through Monday, a holiday, the company said.

Since December 2001, approximately 33,000 workers have been forced to leave the Boeing payroll. Some 21,100 of those work in Western Washington.

Boeing said at the year's beginning it will lay off about 5,000 more workers this year in addition to the 30,000 it had laid off through Dec. 31, 2002.

The weak airline industry is at the root of most of the Boeing layoffs, the company has said.
