Re-wild US and Canada, urge
planners
Dear Editor,
Well, now, let's see. Since the November 3rd Times contained
two rather interesting headlines on significant back-to-naturing
movements, might it be safe to whisper that perhaps those claiming
there are global, environment-based government goals, are not
really kooks?
The biggest article, titled WORLD ECO-TRAINING CAMP HERE,
with a next-page sub-headline of KING COUNTY NOW, TOMORROW THE
WORLD, described King County Councilwoman Cynthia Sullivan's
brainchild King County World Conservation Corps. With all of
this county's unfunded infrastructure needs, why are we spending
government money to train youngsters from "Russia, India,
Ghana and a handful of other developing countries (to) save the
world tree by tree, stream by stream, piece by piece."
Unless it's to promote nature-without-borders, as indicated
by the second article titled PLANNERS URGE VAST, UNBROKEN WILDERNESS
AREA, which promotes re-wilding Canada and the United States
from the Yukon to a point well south of the center of Wyoming,
including the majority of Idaho along the way. The article's
statement about not "evicting humans or shutting down development"
would be comforting were it not for the example of the Adirondack
Park, which has grown from about 3,000 acres to 6,000,000 strictly-controlled
acres from which, yes, some rural towns have been eliminated
and roads removed.
We can say who cares, we're not involved. But don't forget
there's another officially-mapped North Cascades ecosystem proposal
which WILL affect us. So be aware, and hope the Times will keep
us posted.
