Kyoto: the remedy

by Henry Lamb

There is but one remedy to the Kyoto Protocol: truth. Ultimately, the truth will win, but not necessarily before several generations of Americans are subjected to the reign of global governance as administered by an incestuous, enlightened, UN leadership.

Thirty years ago, Paul Ehrlich - a leading advocate of global warming - published his declaration that the population bomb could not be stopped; that population had exceeded the earth's carrying capacity, and by the 1980s, thousands of Americans would be dying of starvation. It didn't happen.
Twenty-five years ago, Stephen Schneider - a leading advocate of global warming - said the earth was at the brink of a new ice age. It didn't happen.
Fifteen years ago, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) - a leading advocate of global warming - said Alar (an apple preservative) was threatening the health of our children. It didn't happen. The truth prevailed. The so-called scientific study on which the NRDC's claim was based was found to be flawed to the point of near-fraud. In order to replicate the laboratory studies used by the NRDC, adult humans would have to eat 28,000 pounds of apples every day for 70 years to ingest comparable doses of the Alar fed to laboratory animals. The truth always prevails - eventually.

The remedy to the Kyoto Protocol is to accelerate the exposure of the truth. The claims of global warming cannot withstand the light of truth. The misrepresentation of the global warming science is akin to the Alar scandal: the message being advanced by the global warming advocates does not reflect the actual scientific findings.

Nevertheless, the President, Al Gore, and the UN, have all declared the matter of science settled. Moreover, they claim a "consensus" exists among 2500 "scientists" who developed the report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Shame on them. No consensus exists; the 2500 "scientists" whose names appear as citations in the 2,000-page report were never asked whether or not they agreed with the conclusions reached by the policy makers and published in a 7-page executive summary.

The executive summary of the report concludes that the "...evidence suggests a discernible human influence on global climate." Nowhere in the 2,000-page report approved by the participating scientists, does that conclusion appear. Moreover, Chapter 8, the chapter on science, was severely edited by the policy makers to exclude many statements by the scientists themselves which say that no determination can yet be made as to the human influence on global climate. The lead author of Chapter 8, Dr. Benjamin Santer, told Science magazine (May 16, 1997) that "it is unfortunate that people read the media hype before they read the report. We say quite clearly few scientists would say that the attribution issue was a done deal." (Emphasis added).

The science is not settled, despite the protestations of the Gore/Clinton Administration. The remedy to the Kyoto Protocol is to expose the truth. The truth about the science as well as the truth about the process, and the truth about the consequences, all must be brought to the awareness of the American people. The truth campaign must be waged by ordinary Americans who want to sustain freedom as well as development. The mainstream media, too, has become an instrument of advocacy. CNN has degraded into a 24-hour a day propaganda mill for the UN's sustainable development agenda. Throughout Europe and Asia in particular, CNN is a continual advertisement for the blessings of the UN. Timothy Wirth left his position as chief negotiator on the global warming treaty to become the administrator of Ted Turner's billion-dollar gift to the UN. The major TV networks, according to a recent survey by the Media Research Center, are all lopsided in their reporting of the global warming issue. Peter Jennings of ABC News, on several occasions, has proclaimed the science is settled, without giving dissenting scientists the time of day.

The truth will ultimately prevail. The Leipzig Declaration has now been signed by more than 140 climate scientists around the world, all proclaiming that the climate science does not support the conclusions drawn by the UN policy makers. More and more climate scientists, atmospheric scientists, astrophysicists, and other climate professionals are speaking out about the horrendous distortions being perpetrated by the policy makers. The Union of "Confused" Scientists, on the other hand, parades out a petition of advocacy signed by 2500 "scientists." Analysis of the list finds very few climate scientists. Instead there are social scientists, historians, landscape designers and the like. It sounds good to claim 2500 scientists agree with the global warming policy makers, but in the end, the truth will win.

Every day that passes, more Americans are becoming aware of the truth. They are enraged by the manipulation and the sell-out that the current administration is executing in the advancement of global governance. Every day that another person or two, or ten, or a hundred, or a thousand - learn the truth, is a day closer to the remedy of the Kyoto Protocol.
