County approves amendment to Dungeness
River Comprehensive Plan.
Port Angeles, WA - Oct. 23, 2001 - Clallam County Commissioners approved the proposed amendment to the Dungeness Management River Comprehensive Flood Hazard Management Plan. The amendment is to continue developing amendments to the current Dungeness River Comprehensive flood control plan. The plan is outlined in the following: * Investigates the relationship of land use, environmental protection, drainage, recreation, transportation, and public services; * Identifies properties along the river that warrant public ownership due to their unique habitat values or recreational qualities or because they are threatened by the river’s flooding patterns; Develop criteria for establishing priorities’ parcels; Addresses new types of flood hazards which have emerged. Describes restoration and flood hazard reduction activities that meet both habitat improvement and hazard reduction goals. In addition, the amendment will be incorporated into phase three of the WRIA 18 watershed plan. The CFHMP amendment will include a public involvement program and identification of opportunities to enhance ESA fish habitat. from Peter Ripley's weekly report.
