| Kretz wins 7th District Republican Ticket in Primary - Earnest campaign efforts, community support evident in primary results 9/22/04 Rancher and citizen activist Joel Kretz recently walked away with the Seventh District State Representative Republican spot for the general election, as decided by last Tuesday’s primary election.
Kretz has so far won 47.12 percent of the votes cast for Republican candidates on the primary ballot, with Mike Hanson collecting 27.22, followed by Sue Lani Madsen at 25.65 percent. Although the election results will not be certified until September 24, Kretz’s strong lead ensures his place in the November election.
Kretz said he feels honored by the number of voters that turned out to support him. “It has been a hectic and interesting campaign season so far and I am very grateful for the people who have worked on my campaign,” said Kretz. “From the volunteers who helped with parades, passed out literature, made donations and spent time talking with other voters; they were all crucial to bringing such a dynamic win to the campaign in the primary.”
Kretz also expressed appreciation for the stalwart voters who braved the sometimes confusing new primary system.
“The new primary has been challenging to get used to, but I am proud of the level of participation in the primary election this year. It’s obvious our state has some dedicated voters who were willing to figure out the new system and make their vote count,” he said.
With less than 40 days until the general election, Kretz said he plans to stay hard at work getting around the district and listening to voter concerns.
“I feel the representative for the seventh district needs to take into careful account the needs and concerns of all the people living here,” he related. “In order to bring economic health and vitality to the district, we need everyone’s input.”
