PORT ANGELES -- The Lower Elwha Klallam tribe has come out against a proposed shooting park site along Sadie Creek, southwest of Joyce.

``We urge Clallam County to oppose this proposal,'' Tribal Chairman Dennis R. Sullivan states in a Sept. 8 letter to county commissioners.

``It is too large, inconsistent with site conditions, requires too much infrastructure and degrades environmental quality and federally protected treaty rights.''

Sullivan said failure to protect treaty rights ``will result in an unavoidable confrontation between the tribe and Clallam County.''
